Since its inception, department is providing general Orthopaedics and trauma services. Department isortho1.jpg (9532 bytes) recognized in the region for quality of its services. It has established itself as a referral centre for all kinds of traumatic and non-traumatic spinal problems. More that 1500 Spinal Surgeries have been carried out in last 6 years for spinal injuries, infection, tumours & scoliosis. Joint replacement surgery, of all major joints including hip & knee, is a regular feature. Over the years it has started speciality clinics in the field of spine, arthroplasty, orthopaedic oncology, upper limb surgery, arthroscopy and paediatric orthopaedic. In addition, in the current year the department has started state of the art minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery, thoracoscopy and transforaminal disc excision, arthroscopy of shoulderm elbow and wrist, especically for sports injuries and comprehensive surgery of cerebral palsy, congenital and acuried deformities.

Department also has an attached, well-equipped Physiotherapy and occupational therapy units staffed by highly trained and qualified staff.

  • 66 indoor beds, apart from beds in emergency and private wards.

  • Three well equipped world-class operation theatres

- Two dedicated operation theatres for elective orthopaedic surgeries both fitted with laminar airflow system.

- One dedicated operation theatre for emergency orthopaedic surgeries.

RESEARCH & TRAINING

The department apart from  training MBBS students is also imparting training to post-graduate MSortho3.jpg (11899 bytes) student. The department takes active interest in the academic activities as well. It has published more than 50 research papers in National and International journals since 1996. An equal number of papers have been presented by the faculty members at different National & Regional conferences. Till now, the department has organised more than 20 conferences and workshops.

CME PROGRAMMES, CONFERENCES AND ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

In the current year the department organized Annual Conference of Punjab Chapter of IOA and workshop on Endoscopic Spinal Surgery. The deparment has also organized 2 workshops in disability prevention and rehabilitation sponsored by WHO and also a workshop on cerebral palsy. The department has organized one-day training workshop for Operating Room Personnel(ORPs) on A.O. Principles. The department has also organized Sensitization workshop for I.C.F. Disability and Health sponsored by WHO. The department has also been given the responsibility to host the Annual Conference of North Zone Chapter of Indian Orthopaedic Association for the year 2005 and Annual conference of Association of Spinal Surgeons of India for the year 2006.

  • Workshop on “Kyphoplasty” held on 23rd -24th  March, 2008.

  • National Workshop  on “Sexual Empowerment of Disabled Persons in India” held on 6th-7th September, 2008.

  • National Workshop on “ Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery & Disc Replacement” held on 29th -30th October, 2008.

 

AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Dr. Sudhir Kumar, Professor has been trained in Orthopaedics in UK under ODTS scheme of tortho4.jpg (11883 bytes)he Royal College of Surgeons of England for 4 years. In 2004, he attended the Asia Pacific Musculoskeletal Tumour Society (APMSTS) Conference held at Izmir in Turkey. He has been admitted as member of APMSTS. He also underwent a clinical attachment in Orthopaedic onclolgy at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham U.K.

  • Dr. Ravi K. Gupta,Reader, was awarded AO International Fellowship and received training in AO techniques in Austria. He also underwent a fellowship on hand and upper limb surgery with special emphasis on sports injuries at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Australia. He has also been admitted as a life fellow of Asia Pacific Orthopaedics Association in the year 2003.

  • Dr. P.N. Gupta, Senior Lecturer, over the years visited many reputed centres in India specializing in the management of paediatric orthopeadic problems. He underwent a clinical attachment in Pediatrics Orthopaedics at Bombay in year 2004.

  • ISSH Johnson-Johnson Traveling Fellowship for year 2008-09.
