  • Investigation for Complete Blood Picture, Peripheral Smear for Malaria Parasites, Sputum for AFB, Lipidogram, Renalcomm3.jpg (47819 bytes) Function Test, Liver Function Test, ECG are available.

  • UHTC-44 & RHTC, Palsora are recognized as Microscopy Centre under Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme.

  • Epidemiological Investigations of Outbreaks of communicable diseases.
  • Imparting Health education/training to community & health functionaries

FUNCTIONS

  • Teaching and training to the Undergraduate (MBBS) students, interns and Postgraduate (MD) students.
  • Providing complete health care through Urban Health Training Centre, Sector 44 and Rural Health Training Centre Palsora.
  • Carrying out research
    - Departmental Projects;
    - Sponsored projects funded by national agencies
    - PG(MD) thesis

Various National Programmes viz Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme, Reproductive and Child Health, Pulse Polio Immunization etc are also implemented through the centres.


A. Urban Health Training Centre-44

Urban Health Training Centre is provided Comprehensive health Care to the Community and Catering to population of  Sector 43, 44 & adjoining JJ Colony

Rural Health Training Centre is providing Comprehensive Health Care to the Community and Catering to population of village Palsora, Sector 56, adjoining J J Colonies and as well as Mohali, Phase 2.

  • National programmes - All the national programmes are implemented in catchment area through RHTC with the involvement of students and other para medical staff.

  • Demographic population profile will be made on user friendly computer software for early identification and need for any health related event and services.

RESEARCH & TRAINING

Faculty members of the department have more than hundred of publications in various National and International Journals of repute, and continuously attending and presenting papers in various National and International Conferences every year, and some of them also got awards for best presentation.

  • A number of research projects in the Department have been completed and are under progress.

  • Department of Community Medicine is committed for better community health by means of teaching, training of UG, Interns & PGs and patient care at community level.

  • Department celebrated “World Cancer Day” on 4th Feb.2008 with theme on ‘Smoking Free Environment for Children’. 

  • Department celebrated  Breast Cancer Awareness Week ‘ Paint Life Pink’ on 10th October 2008 with the objective of creating awareness regarding prevention of Breast  Cancer, poster competition of school  students was held. There were 120 participants from 19 Government/ Public Schools of Chandigarh both of Hindi Medium and English Medium. Speakers from Department of Community Medicine and Members of IPHA –GMC Chapter presented talks and discussed various issues related with Breast Cancer. Interactive sessions were held and prizes were given for best posters in various categories.

  • An ICMR funded project entilted, " NATURAL MENTORING AND ITS IMPACT ON HEALTH CONDITIONS OF ADOLESCENTS" has been undertaken by the department.

  • Professor Naveen Krishan Goel has recently been awarded Felllowship of Indian Public Health Association (IPHA) in Calcuttain January, 2007.

  • Dr. Sonia Puri won Best Poster Award at Indian Public Health Association (IPHA) North Zonal Conference held in April 2008, New Delhi.

  • Faculty members of the Department have been invited to deliver lectures in various courses sponsored by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, New Delhi and  different other agencies.
